A bookmark commission from Tumblr! These whales are Southern Residents, the male is J34 Doublestuf and the female is K20 Spock!

This was a lot of fun to do, even though this upload is the third try! I used my regular Perfect Coloring paper for the finished drawing and as always I covered the whales in masking fluid after inking so I could do the background. But twice in a row, the masking fluid destroyed the paper when I tried to remove it after drying! In the end I switched to Mixed Media paper which worked out fine.

My habit of never using my original sketches but instead making a copy using a lightbox really saved me here!

Medium: Copic Markers and Polychromos pencils (for the whales), Ecoline (for the background), and white gelpen on Strathmore Mixed Media Paper
Time taken: about three hours, start to finish

Commissions for these bookmarks and for sketchcards are still open! Send me a message if you're interested or buy a commission straight away in my Etsy store!
Beluga's - three years apart! by DutchOrca
Beluga's - three years apart!
Etsy  Tumblr

I've always wanted to do one of these so when my old Beluga artwork was requested by a group and I saw how horrible it looked I decided to give the Beluga's another go!

These are three years apart, both made with Copic Markers. The image on the left is one of the first drawings I made with Copic Markers and the first time drawing Beluga's. I had no idea how to shade white animals or objects and little experience with cetaceans. The image on the right shows I've made some progress drawing them, but I'm still not happy with the shading on the adult. It's too brown for a white animal. But it's a lot better than the one on the left ;)
